I have three different third-party N64 controllers: the Hyperkin Admiral (this one), the Retrobit Tribute64, and the RetroFighters Brawler 64. Out of the 3, the Admiral is the one I recommend...with some caveats...The controller itself works great. The stick (in my opinion) is the best of the 3 controllers - it feels more natural and I don’t agree with other reviews that have said the stick is too sensitive - I think it’s great. All of the buttons work the way they should and it’s nice to have the Z button as what we’d usually consider R2 & L2 on other controllers. It paired right up to the receiver and I played a good bit with it and didn’t notice any lag from my perspective. Now, the “bad”... the material for the casing/shell of the controller feels by far the cheapest out of the 3 controllers I’ve referenced. My wedding ring actually did leave some markings in the finish on the under-side of the controller, assuming that would only get worse overtime as I use it more and more. I’d say the other 2 controllers beat this one in terms casing materials, with the Tribute64 winning that aspect overall. The last “bad” thing I would say is more of a nit-pick, but I dislike how big the receiver is sticking out of the front of the console. Sure, it’s intuitive to have the memory card slot right at the console, which cuts down on the controller cost and manufacturing nuances, and it has to stick UP from the console so as to not interfere with the other controller ports - I get that...just not a huge fan of it. I would have rather forgone the option of the memory card slot personally.I think if Hyperkin would have used a more high-quality material and finish for the shell, this would be a knockout controller, even if they had to raise the sale price in order to do a different mold material. Other than that, solid controller so far. Very pleased! Thanks!I read the comments and studied this product for a while. I downloaded the manual because you can learn a lot by looking at the manual ahead of time. All the button are there, but it's definitely nothing like the original N64 controller. So I bought one to check it out. It works really well. Any fears about the controller layout and reaching the buttons were quickly laid to rest. I've not played the N64 in a while because of the problem of cords getting tripped over, which was a shame because my daughter and I played a lot of games together and loved the console. I've converted the signal to HDMI and it's now hooked up to my HD television and looks just fine. I tested the controller on Diddy Kong Racing. It's still as much fun right now as it always was. The controller worked flawlessly, was very comfortable in my hands, and it was pure pleasure to be playing one of my N64 favorites again.I highly recommend buying this product. You can use your memory cards and even transfer them to SD card. Free up your N64 and discover a truly great console again, or even for the first time. It's well worth the price.Works great with my N64 that have had when the system first came out.I love this, it's something I've been hoping would come into existence for years! It's especially convenient for me, as I no longer have to worry about my dogs chewing on the cable or accidentally pulling my N64 off of my media center. The layout isn't quite as optimal as RetroBit's Tribute64 or the Hori pad as the buttons are spaced ever so slightly differently, but I was able to adjust quickly. It's also nice that the controller itself functions both as an N64 and PC controller, though I wish the bluetooth receiver was able to work with other controllers as well such as Dualshock 4 and Switch Pro controllers. Bonus points for both Z buttons actually being functional on real hardware.Nintendo will release an N64 controller for the Switch in Japan, but I'm very happy to buy this Hyperkin controller. This is because the data can be saved by inserting the memory.I bought it at Amazon in the US because it is not sold in Japan.I wanted the shape to look a little more like the original, but the usability is very good.I'm very happy because I can play away from the TV monitor and console. The controller works exceptionally well plugged into an original n64, However if you're looking to buy this for the Bluetooth compatibility for Android and pc stop right now and look for something else, EXTREME INPUT LAG sometimes it will just plainly disregard that you've pressed any button at all. I have mixed feelings about the product because again it works great with a n64 console, little to no input lag and the controller itself feels nice its small and sleek but just right for your hands also it has dual Z buttons so thats nice but man when I tried it on my phone I was absolutely heart broken, I thought maybe on the pc it could preform better, NOPE its the same. I guess the Bluetooth in the controller is really low quality and only works well in conjunction with the receiver/ transmitter within the adapter you put into the consoles proprietary controller connection. If you have a N64 console this is great for that, if you want it for emulator use forget it, USE A XBOX ONE CONTROLLER FOR ZERO INPUT LAG.If you are used to playing with wired controllers, there is a very noticable lag and lack of responsiveness. I ended up returning them.I wish it was shaped like the original controller, but I guess this is the best option right now if you actually want to use the controller with your original N64 system. The dongle does not work well with N64’s transfer pak. I tried using my Pokémon yellow cartridge to play Pokémon Stadium. It boots up no problem with my original N64 controller, but I had to pull the pak in and out and turn the console on and off about 10 times to finally get it to work. When it did, my console restarted after about 5 minutes mid play. Okay, first of all these seem very nicely made and very reliable, having no prior impression of Hyperkin products or the brand. We wanted the real original N64 experience rather than messing around with PC emulation and so on but we don’t want wires to trip over, keep organized, etc. We are NOT die hard N64 people and I have no comment on whether the controller latency, joystick resolution, or anything like that is as good as a wired controller in good condition. We were looking at having no reliable source for well priced wired controllers anyway, so I went looking for a wireless option. We bought one first, tried it out, and then a second, because we thought the first was good for the price and wanted to be all wireless. These charge via micro USB which you have on hand already for power packs, older cell phones, phone and computer accessories, and so on. Nice to not need some kind of weird dedicated charging plug. Now, caveats. Obviously these need a way to shut off and save battery life when not in use. The way that works is that they unpair and the controller turns off every single time the console-powered dongles turn off with the console. To re-pair you have to press and hold the little pair button on the controller and the little pair button in the dongle, wait for the lights to stop flashing, then repeat with the next controller if you have multiple wireless units. All in all pretty sweet but since we have two controllers there is a four step pairing dance every time we want to play or want to switch games. The silver lining might be that the packaging promises the controllers can work via bluetooth with PC and iPhone/ iPad. Nothing to report on what that is like or how well it works.Bought two of these a little while ago to save my vintage N64 controllers, 100% happy. Controllers have to be synced when you initially turn on the console & after they go into sleep mode if they’re not used for a few minutes, but not a big deal. Press the small button on the dongle, then when the light flashes quickly, hold the small button on the controller beside the charging port for 5 seconds. Each controller comes with a cord but no charger, but all you need is any smart phone charger. Definitely worth the money if you love retro gaming but don’t want to break your 20 year old controller in half during a heated round of Super Smash Bros.I love this controller, nice and smooth to hold, sensitivity of the joystick is nice and easy to handle, and it's also great it can be used on PC! It'll work so nice with my emulators.Works well, no noticeable lag or drift. Buttons don't feel the best but they do work and I can live with them. Very comfortable in the hands. I will buy a second one.
