I have been a fan of Samurai Warriors Since back in 2004 when they made SW1 and been fan of the Series since, and Samurai Warriors 5 is a fresh take and re-imagining of SW1 and the Samurai Warriors Series as a whole focused on Nobunaga Oda and Mitsuhide Akechi instead of telling the usual Unification Story thats been portrayed for many years. The Combat is both Smooth, refined, and Polished and Less Stale compared to the movesets from previous entries that have not been updated since the debut of the characters this was especially bad for the SW1 cast such as Goemon or Nobunaga who were still using their SW1 move-sets in 2014. SW5 however provided 15 new Movesets that were more up to date and fit the current generation of Musou games. it also provided new portrayals on the old cast some being huge improvements others being downgrades, the game also balanced the hyper attacks from SW4 to make them less Overpowered and also provided a new mechanic known as Ultimate Skills which also made combat alot more fun as you had to strategize which skills were effective against certain units. That being Said while this game has pushed things a few Step forward it also takes several Steps backward. if you are looking for a game with alot of replayability then this is not the game for you, i have finished the story but even the side Mode: Citadel doesn't really offer anything new and is more of a glorified mode to earn materials to upgrade the shop, dojo, and blacksmith. Outside of this only thing you got is free mode.the roster was originally 61 back in Spirit of Sanada with 61 unique movesets, but now the roster is only 37 characters with only 15 weapons and only 5 of these characters are unique. 10 of these characters are also not fully Playable as they were not given any EX attacks or any Musou finisher art. (don't even move their lips or say anything when they do their musou). the game also lacks alot of other content that could of helped it. Chronicles Mode, Create a Warrior, Survival Mode, etc.The Story in the long run is also quite Mediocre as some characters are just "There" and contribute nothing to the plot or others are massive downgrades from their previous portrayals (namely Nobunaga or Katsuie Shibata). in other cases some characters are just sidelined and Nobunaga and Mitsuhide get the most favoritism treatment so characters like Shingen or Motonari hardly have any prescience in the game. However the game does Bring 15 new characters, rare weapons to unlock, 2 rare horses you have to unlock, a skill tree, upgrading weapons, can level up horses, and alot more. This game is Not perfect by any Means, but if i had to grade it i would give it a 7.0 or 7.5. So i would only Suggest getting this game if your new to the franchise and not a Veteran like Myself. or at least getting it when its On Sale.Let me first say that I love being able to play Samurai Warriors on my switch. My wife and I love the culture and the characters, but mostly she loves simple games (she makes me do all the leveling up).I am intrigued that this installment is much more concerned with being historically aligned that previous installments (I own the first two for older systems), and the characters available are all from the years in question, and represent the factions present in the real battles. That said, after beating the game, there is an unlocked section of "what if...?" battles that are quite enjoyable. And while I thoroughly enjoy this game, I can't help but miss the customizable character option from SW2. And considering the capacity of newer hardware, I can't help but wish there were certain other characters present (such as some that were available in SW2, SW2: Extreme Legends, or SW2: Empire). As a counterpoint, all weapons are now available to all characters. So, if you really like a character, but hate their default weapon? Just level up their rank in a weapon you prefer more.Be aware that all voice-work is in Japanese. There is no English language track, which makes battle chatter hard to keep up with. Luckily, you can always pause the game and check the log easily enough.Bottom line: a fun game with good multiplayer; a decent roster of characters (even if I am spoiled); quality graphics and audio, and a great (fictionalized) look at the Sengoku period. The history of Japan and in the story of the Demon King is amazing! I love the artwork its so beautiful! I havent unlocked all the characters but the story so far is very gut wrenching. I hope new people who discover this series of games will enjoy it. For many years I have loved this series Im ready for Dynasty Warriors 10 now! Great Game!Pretty nice game
