So this release itself is good from a technical perspective, according to Electric Underground, these games only have 4 frames of input lag on Nintendo Switch (which is decent for a Shmup on this platform). I also received the proper US version with the ESRB logo on the box and the Switch cartridge. But the problem lies with the Nintendo Switch not being able to recognize this physical version as the DeathSmiles 1&2 (digital version) on the eShop. What this means is that if you wanted to play the $25 DLC with additional characters, you would not be able to do so without also buying the digital release of this game. This is ridiculous and I assume it’s the fault of the publisher. I think they used the same game files across all regions and I suppose the Nintendo Switch recognizes the cartridge as being from a different region. So it’s possible that if you made a Nintendo account linked with Europe or Japan, you *may* be able to get the DLC that way but it currently does not work with the US eShop. The game itself is excellent and DeathSmiles 2 is pretty rare and not available on Steam. The artwork is beautiful and this Shmup is more forgiving than a lot of Cave’s other games.
