Honestly this is an amazing game, and for so many reasons. I just wish the Nintendo Switch were stronger to better support the graphics and vision of the developers, but nonetheless I still strongly recommend this game to anyone that's willing to give it a try. You'd be best served by playing the first two games first, but it's not necessary. The story and the characters are top notch. Extremely well-written and memorable - I won't be forgetting it or them anytime soon. Their designs and voice actors are also stellar, with better production quality than the previous games. And speaking of production, the music and soundtrack in this game is incredible.Gameplay has been improved upon versus its predecessors with some great QOL improvements. They streamlined the fetch quests, improved upon the normal quests, included a trail marker to quest locations, etc. Characters have quests that flesh out their own individual stories in a great way, and the main story quests are hard to put down, so to speak.Combat is similar, but improved upon. For those unaware it's a real-time game with cool-down abilities. You manually move your character around the enemies, but basic attacks happen automatically when you're in range. This leaves you to focus more on positioning, comboing abilities, activating game-pausing special attacks, etc. There's a lot of depth and complexity to this game so it's not a case of just watching your character attack - you must be involved every step of the way, for the most part. For fans of the series, I'd personally say the game is mechanically better than the previous games. The story and characters are tied with the second game in my opinion, while both are better than the first. Music might be the best overall of the three. Graphics are the best, but unfortunately hampered by the aging Nintendo Switch at this point. You're better served playing it docked, but it's acceptable in handheld mode. I played it about 50/50 each way myself. Also, there's apparently a "memory leak" issue where the game's graphics and quality will degrade overtime if you don't close out the game every so often, so I suggest you to close and reopen the game at least once a day or something. So all in all, I recommend this game 100% to anyone and everyone. It might not be to your style or taste, but it's absolutely worth a try before writing it off. It's my game of the year, for sure.
